Why Go on Sorrento Vacation

Nestled on the shores of the breathtaking Naples Bay and busking in the sunlight, the charming town of Sorrento is a mysterious place, greatly influenced by two mighty civilizations of the past, Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. As an Italian city, the latter is somehow self-evident, while the first might come as a surprise. Before the times when Romans conquered the world, Sorrento was held by Greece, and the evidence of that can be found all around the beautiful city.

Interestingly, according to the old Greek legend, the coast of Sorrento is home to one of the worst nightmares of the sailors of the past, sirens. Yes, mythical women who were enchanting men with their singing and leading to certain death on the rocky shore of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Nowadays, you can find the ancient ruins of the Temple of Minerva in the vicinity of the city. The legend says that it was Odysseus who built the temple to thank the mighty greek Goddess for keeping him safe as he traveled through the dangerous waters. With a story like this, the old temple is a great place to visit during your Sorrento vacation.

But that's not the only place, of course. The city boasts numerous amazing sights to explore, such as the 7th-century San Francesco complex and, one of the most well-known Sorrento tourist attractions, the striking Cathedral of Sorrento, known as the Duomo among locals.

Another "must" thing to do during your Sorrento tour is checking out the local pottery shops, as the town is famous for its beautiful ceramic goods what will become amazing souvenirs to bring home after a remarkable vacation in Italy.
